PV Powered, Inc., have been selected for use in a 525kW solar installation at Patriot Place Mall
Bend, ORE [WorldofRenewables..com]
The PV Powered commercial inverter units at this ½ MW site are being interfaced with rooftop solar panels on seven different buildings in the mall, including the Hall at Patriot Place Presented by Raytheon. The system is expected to generate more than 12 million kilowatt hours of electricity over 20 years, preventing the release of more than 8,800 metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. That is the equivalent of removing more than 1,600 passenger vehicles from the road for a year. The installation is owned and managed by Constellation Energy’s Projects and Services Group of Baltimore, Maryland under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Patriot Place.
“We need to install inverter technology that has been engineered for high reliability over the long term,” said Ron Melchior, Constellation Energy’s Director of Renewable Energy Projects. “PV Powered showed us the reliability data and this, combined with their competitive price, standard 10-year warranty and optional 20-year warranty, put them at the head of the pack for this project. In addition, the company’s commitment to responsive service made us comfortable with them as a technology partner.”

The Patriot Place project is the first of several commercial solar installations in which Constellation Energy plans to use PV Powered inverters. For all of these installations PV Powered is integrating a performance monitoring solution from a third-party partner on the commercial inverters at the factory so that Constellation can verify that maximum energy is being delivered and track the returns on its investment. “We were really pleased that PV Powered provided us the choice of integrated performance monitoring as it will simplify site installation,” said Ron Melchior.
“PV Powered ensures that our customers get maximum energy harvest by delivering an inverter with the highest reliability and the longest operating life,” said Erick Petersen, VP of Marketing and Sales at PV Powered. “With an uptime that exceeds 99.9%, PV Powered commercial inverters promise game-changing performance season after season. The Patriot Place project will be a very visible example that our product solutions for reliable large-scale commercial solar projects are economically-viable over the long haul.”
