work-at-height health and safety in the wind energy sector.
Limpet Technology – the Edinburgh-based creators of the unique Limpet™ safety system, have started the search for distribution partners to join them at the forefront of work-at-height health and safety in the wind energy sector.
Their mission from the company’s launch has been a simple one – to bring state-of-the-art technology to height safety, and help anyone who needs to climb as part of their job to do so with speed, complete confidence and 100% safety. The Limpet™ design achieves a number of objectives. The systems patented climb assist technology can reduce the weight of the user, and any tools etc by up to 90%, – making their ascent easier and faster than normal – at the same time as providing a safety feature that will not allow a climber to fall. Crucially, from a corporate governance view point, it provides an extremely fast and effective descend to aid rescue and evacuation where people are working at high, inaccessible levels.
The privately-owned Scottish company is targeting countries across continental Europe where there is strong development in wind energy as the technology is proven to assist turbine operators in many ways. The systems five functions including climb assist, fall prevention and rescue, have many benefits for wind farm operators. For example, the Limpet’s technology has been tested in turbines and can ensure evacuation from a turbine at a tenth of the time taken to do so with traditional ascent and descent methods – greatly reducing any life-threatening scenario resulting from an accident or injury. Secondly, the fail-safe design and ease of use greatly reduces equipment down–time for turbine operators – whether during general maintenance or in the unlikely event of an emergency.
Newly appointed Executive Chairman, John Reid, explains that the company are now looking to seek partnerships with distributors, installation, training and service and maintenance companies in Europe, saying: “Our product is unique – but we are a relatively small company with resources that, to date, have been invested rightly in design, prototypes, testing and manufacture.” John adds “The product and the service it provides is proven. Now we are keen to roll out the benefits across Europe initially, and then further afield, where the health and safety of workers at height is of paramount importance. We are now looking to extend our partnerships and would be delighted to hear from any company who believe they could work well with Limpet Technology”.
John brings his considerable experience in manufacturing and technology-based businesses to Limpet, along with a track record of taking innovative products to the market.
