Recovery and beneficial use of landfill gas (LFG) as an energy resource.
Green Gas Americas, in conjunction with Tetra Tech, has won a contract worth a total maximum value of USD 19.7 million to support the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Landfill Methane Outreach Programme (LMOP). The programme is intended to help operators and developers around the world to reduce methane emissions from landfills, by encouraging the recovery and beneficial use of landfill gas (LFG) as an energy resource.
The LMOP forms partnerships with communities, landfill owners, utilities, power marketers, states, project developers and non-profit organisations to overcome barriers to project development by helping them evaluate project feasibility and market the benefits of the project to the community.
The programme is part of the EPA Office of Atmospheric Programmes, Climate Change Division for Technical and Outreach Support Services for Reducing Emissions from Landfills and is in place for the next five years.
Duncan Cox, Director of Green Gas Americas, said: “Green Gas is pleased to be working with Tetra Tech and the EPA to provide our international experience and technical capabilities, to improve and advance LMOP landfill gas to energy projects in the US and the rest of the world”.
