The new subsidiary will focus on distribution of PV components, as well as the construction of roof top and ground-mounted systems.
Dornach near Munich. Operating as Gehrlicher Solar UK Ltd., the global photovoltaic company now has a presence in Great Britain. The new company, 100%-owned by Gehrlicher Solar AG, is based in Birmingham and was officially registered on March 30, 2011.
Gehrlicher Solar has been selling photovoltaic components through selected partners in Great Britain for around two years. Jens Schnoor, Head of the Components & Systems division, and therefore responsible for international business, will also take on the role of Managing Director of the new company. “The British market is of particular interest to us: the feed-in tariffs are attractive, there are a number of large open spaces and the hours of sunshine are comparable to Germany. We will have completed the first large-scale open space projects by the middle of this year and are also planning to significantly expand our distribution operations”, says Jens Schnoor.
The creation of the British subsidiary is a further step in Gehrlicher Solar’s long-term internationalization strategy. Alongside Gehrlicher’s offices in Germany, the company currently has subsidiaries in the following countries: Brazil, France, Greece, Great Britain, India, Italy, Spain, South Africa and the USA.
