The contract award will also create jobs and opportunities in the developing UK offshore wind supply chain.
Envirolink member Cammell Laird Shiprepairers and Shipbuilders has secured a contract, worth over £5 million, with RWE npower renewables Ltd (RWE NRL) to support the construction of Gwynt y Môr, one of the largest offshore wind farms in construction in Europe.
This is in addition to signing an engineering services agreement enabling the renewables company to use the wealth of engineering and technical support offered by Cammell Laird to assist with the project. The relationship with Cammell Laird is expected to lead to a significant amount of work for the company with over a £1 million of steel fabrication work already committed.
Cammell Laird will be speaking at Envirolink and Mersey Maritime’s upcoming ‘Offshore wind: Opportunities in Operation and Maintenance’ event which is being held on 16 November 2011 in Merseyside.
Cammell Laird became involved with Envirolink through the Envirolink Northwest Programme as they looked to diversify their operations into the growing offshore wind market. Cammell Laird exhibited at a number of RenewableUK exhibitions as part of the ‘Envirolink Northwest Pavilion’ which showcased North West suppliers of renewable technologies.
Cammell Laird has been a guest speaker and sponsor at two Envirolink offshore wind events in addition to having a large presence at the Crown Estate Offshore wind supply chain event in New Brighton in February 2011.
The contract announcement is a great example of a UK business diversifying into the offshore wind industry which is a key business development and support area for Envirolink. The contract award will also create jobs and opportunities in the developing UK offshore wind supply chain.
