AIS Automation Dresden (AIS) received a large order to install its Manufacturing Execution System (VPC-MES) for the factory that is currently under construction in Arnstadt. This factory, which will be used for the manufacturing of crystalline solar cells, is to extend the production capacities of Bosch Solar Energy AG by approx. 400MWp. As a proven and flexible system, the VPC-MES from AIS is already successfully used in four factories that are run by Bosch. The exact contract value was not announced to the public.
With this contract, Bosch Solar Energy confirms its willingness to continue the longstanding and trustful partnership with AIS. AIS’ comprehensive experience across the entire value-added chain from wafer manufacturing and cell production up to module assembly along with their extensive know-how in the implementation of MES solutions in the photovoltaics industry within more than 50 projects worldwide were crucial factors for the award decision. For more than 6 years, with its innovative and reliable VPC-MES, AIS has taken a leading position when it comes to near-production IT solutions in the photovoltaics and solar industry.
Mr Gottfried Gerlach, AIS’ Managing Director, said: “We are pleased with this important contract and the continuation of our successful co-operation with Bosch Solar Energy. By using our comprehensive experience in the field of MES solutions for the photovoltaics industry, we will once again be a reliable and innovative partner for our customer Bosch Solar Energy. Furthermore, in this project, our VPC-MES will help our customer reveal cost saving potential in production control, quality assurance and production optimisation”.
The project term is rather short because the production in Arnstadt is to start already in early summer 2010. All the functions of the system, including data transfer to the ERP system, must be available very rapidly. Bosch Solar Energy’s high expectations of the new cell factory will be supported by AIS’ MES by providing extensive information for all the areas of the factory, from management and production up to quality assurance. This information is captured during the running of production and is used as a basis for ongoing production optimisation.
