Puerto Rican power utility AEE has signed a PPA with local wind power generation company CompañÃa Vientos de Puerto Rico.
AEE will pay US$0.0912/kWh starting in 2012, the government said in a statement. The utility currently pays US$0.277/kWh for power from gas-fired plants.
The company’s 50MW wind farm will be built on the Monte Grande estate in Arecibo and boast 20 turbines.
Earlier this year, AEE signed a PPA with company Windmar and its 40MW wind farm planned for Guayanilla.
The government’s renewables portfolio also includes projects ranging from waste-to-energy to ocean thermal energy conversion to solar.
